In the world of collections, where precision meets persistence, Katie Postel stands out as a driving force for innovation, integrity, and connection.

As Business Development Manager for BARR Credit Services, Katie serves in multiple roles, particularly:

• Leading the team that powers the behind-the-scenes work for credit groups, thereby bridging strategy and execution to ensure processes run smoothly and members are supported. (See sidebar below, “What Is a Credit Group?”)
• Working closely with credit group members to create clarity and connection on a wide range of needs, supporting development efforts, and organizing meetings.
• Managing both the BARR Credit Services and ICE Credit Exchange websites.
• Marketing and content creation for BARR Credit Services and ICE Credit Exchange.

A nine-year veteran of the credit and collections industry, Katie has helped facilitate BARR Credit’s growth while building trust and delivering value. She’s also a busy mother of two, so juggling her home life with her professional responsibilities requires some finesse. “Life for me is living in the fast lane with two tiny co-pilots and a full-time career—chaotic, exciting, and totally worth it,” she says.

So how does she keep it all together and stay motivated?

Leading With Purpose

Growing up in St. Louis, Mo., Katie regularly served as a volunteered at a children’s home, from which she developed a “passion to help others and a sense of joy.” She continues to demonstrate that passion for service in her current position at BARR Credit, where she oversees six remote employees in various departments.

Keeping a remote staff engaged can be a challenge. In Katie’s weekly and monthly meetings via conference calls and Microsoft Teams, she helps prioritize their assignments while offering positive and constructive feedback. Katie treats her team like family, understanding that life doesn’t stop at the office door. When one of her employees is facing a personal challenge, she offers compassion and support.

It’s a two-way relationship, as Katie’s team members also provide her with support, motivation, and constructive feedback. “My philosophy is, if you don’t know what you’re doing wrong, how can you ever get better?” Katie also appreciates her “supportive and honest” manager, who inspires her to continually review her objectives and identify growth opportunities.

Embracing the occasional mess with a sense of humor can also help. For Katie, motivation isn’t about achieving goals—it’s about serving people. “I focus on the impact. Every day is a chance to make a difference, whether it’s helping a client recover revenue, mentoring a teammate, or simply showing up for my kids. That purpose keeps me grounded and energized,” she says.

Katie is hugely motivated by client success. She thrives on collaboration and
empowering others. This motivation stems from more than just metrics—it’s rooted in purpose, specifically:
